About the Role
An established metallurgical services and thermal processing company in Oakville, Ontario, serving aerospace, medical, industrial and nuclear customers, is hiring a Quality Engineer for its thermal division. This is a long term, succession minded hire reporting to the Director of Engineering, Quality and Pyrometry and supporting the Quality Manager.
What You Will Do
You will own product quality, process compliance and continuous improvement across heat treatment, metallurgical and capital project activities. The role blends quality assurance, metallurgical engineering, project management and process improvement, working daily with Quality, Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, suppliers and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and continuously improve the QMS to AS9100, AS13100, ISO 9001, NADCAP, customer and regulatory requirements
- Support internal, external, customer and certification audits and maintain quality records and KPIs
- Review and disposition NCRs and MRBs and drive corrective and preventive actions
- Lead root cause investigations using structured problem solving
- Develop and optimize heat treatment processes, equipment parameters and metallurgical procedures
- Plan and manage metallurgical, quality improvement, customer and capital projects end to end
- Design heat treatment, quench and straightening fixtures and tooling in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD
- Support supplier and customer quality, including complaint investigations, supplier audits and technical input on quotes
- Support production through troubleshooting, process verification and inspection oversight
Must Haves
- Bachelor's degree (B.Eng, B.Sc) or DEC in Mechanical, Materials or Metallurgical Engineering, or a related discipline
- 5 to 7 years in quality engineering, metallurgical engineering, manufacturing engineering or quality assurance
- Experience working in AS9100 and NADCAP environments
- Strong understanding of heat treatment processes, metallurgy and quality management systems
- Root cause analysis, corrective action, process validation and continuous improvement experience
- PPAP and APQP experience
- Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
- Eligible for Controlled Goods registration, a police background check is required, Canadian citizenship or permanent residency preferred
