Electrical & Embedded Systems Engineer
Job Description:
A Canadian aerospace company building satellites, space robotics, and launch vehicles is hiring an Electrical & Embedded Systems Engineer to own avionics hardware and firmware from concept through flight. This is a hands-on, full lifecycle role at a fast-moving company where you will be building hardware that has never been built before. On-site required.
The Role You own the full lifecycle of embedded avionics — schematic capture, PCB layout, firmware, bench testing, and integration. You work in a small, tightly integrated team where mechanical, electrical, and software intersect daily. This is not a siloed role. You bring deep EE expertise and the versatility to go wherever the hardware needs you.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and test PCB prototypes using Altium, KiCad, or OrCAD from concept through functional validation
- Write embedded firmware in C/C++ for ARM microcontrollers (STM32), integrating FreeRTOS or NuttX
- Develop communication drivers, sensor interfaces, power management, and control algorithms for avionics subsystems
- Perform signal integrity simulation and debug high-speed digital and analog signal paths
- Select components with radiation tolerance, thermal, vacuum, and power budget constraints in mind
- Develop and execute verification test plans at board and subsystem level using oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, and logic analysers
- Support system integration across mechanical, thermal, and software interfaces
- Participate in every phase: requirements, architecture, design, implementation, integration, and flight readiness review
Qualifications
- Bachelor's in Electrical or Computer Engineering (Master's or PhD strongly preferred)
- 3+ years hands-on experience in embedded systems: PCB design and embedded firmware
- Proficiency in Altium, KiCad, or OrCAD, concept through fabrication and bring-up
- Strong C/C++ firmware skills for ARM microcontrollers with RTOS experience
- Python for test automation and scripting
- Familiarity with FPGA (VHDL/Verilog) and RF/SDR is a plus
- Deep passion for space and understanding of designing for space environments
On-Site: This role is fully on-site near Toronto. No hybrid or remote option.
